BMI indicates body mass index, calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. Possible range of self-rated adherence level was from 1 none to 10 perfect. Baseline values were carried forward in cases of missing data. Range of standard deviation for all 4 diet groups was from 1. The curve in the weight change by diet type plot indicates the Lowess regression function, a locally weighted, least-squares method using 3 iterations to fit the data. The curves in the weight change by dietary adherence plot indicate the quadratic regression functions for each diet group. HDL indicates high-density lipoprotein. The curves in all 3 plots indicate the linear regression functions for each diet group. Participants were enrolled starting July 18, , and randomized to 4 popular diet groups until January 24,
Obesity and being overweight are major contributing factors for many diseases. Calorie restricted diets often fail to result in sustained long-term weight loss. Very low—carbohydrate, high-fat ketogenic diets have been suggested to have superior metabolic and weight loss effects. Keyto is a low-cost, highly scalable mobile health mHealth app paired with a noninvasive biofeedback tool aimed at facilitating weight loss through a personalized healthy and predominantly plant- and fish-based ketogenic diet. The primary outcome is weight loss after 12 weeks. Secondary and exploratory outcomes, including metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors, will be assessed at 12, 24, and 48 weeks. A total of participants will be recruited and randomized to either the Keyto program or Weight Watchers program. Study participants will be guided through the study via video conference or phone calls and will undergo a fasting blood analysis performed by a third-party diagnostic lab at weeks 0 and 12 to assess metabolic and cardiovascular risk markers.
Participants will be asked to report the number of minute bouts of light, moderate, and vigorous physical activity they engaged in over the past week. These all contradict current health advice. There’s a danger this type of diet could increase your risk of long-term health problems if you don’t stick to the rules. There is emerging technology that can lower the burden of self-monitoring by measuring breath acetone to provide individuals embarking on a ketogenic diet with immediate ketone-specific self-monitoring that could help optimize adherence and success [ 18 ]. Apart from keeping to low-fat, low-salt and high-protein foods, there’s no restriction on how much you can eat during your first 2 weeks. Table 1 Overview of study hypotheses and research questions. The group meetings encourage members to share successes, ideas and recipes with each other, but they may not appeal to everyone. Author Contributions : Dr Dansinger had full access to all of the data in the study and takes responsibility for the integrity of the data and the accuracy of the data analysis. Instead, you’ll count SmartPoints and earn FitPoints. This retrospective questionnaire allows for extraction of detailed information regarding specific nutrients and food groups eg, carbohydrate intake, consumption of saturated fat. Eating the ‘right’ diet for your blood type means you’re eating the way your ancestors did, which can improve health and decrease the risk of chronic diseases, like heart disease.
